What is The Garinger Education Foundation?

The Garinger Education Foundation was incorporated in February 2014 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to provide resources to improve the educational environment at Garinger High School

Mission Statement:

The Garinger Education Foundation seeks to enhance the educational program at Garinger High School by developing and supporting initiatives that provide projects, programs, and resources to improve the educational environment for students, teachers, administrators and parents and by providing scholarship opportunities for graduating students.

History

Our foundation is the successor to a scholarship effort begun by the Class of 1963 during their 50th reunion.  With their help the foundation awarded fifteen $2000 scholarships in May 2014 to Garinger graduates.  Each of the scholarships was a memorial scholarship in the name of each of the 15 Garinger classmates lost in the Vietnam war.  The foundation has also funded a Vietnam memorial on the Garinger campus to those lost classmates with a dedication date of August 8, 2014

Our Goal

The foundation hopes to continue the 15 memorial scholarships and expand them to four years at $2500 per year for each recipient.  Our goal is to raise at least $150,000 per year to fund this effort.

How is the foundation funded?

At the present time our foundation does not have the financial resources to hire a professional fundraiser or to fund extensive teacher initiatives.  For now we will manage our efforts with volunteers and will focus our efforts on scholarships so that essentially all donations will directly benefit students.

Garinger should have a lot of donors and volunteers who can help.

Because of our lack of major donors or industrial partners in the Garinger area, the foundation hopes to establish a broad base of alumni or other donors who are willing to consider annual gifts to help us achieve our goals.  By working together and involving all the alumni classes, our hope is that combining even modest gifts will enable us to provide the support that can make a real difference for the students.

Why do Garinger Students need our help?

Garinger High School today is in many ways much different than it was when we attended.

  • For about 42%, English is not their first language
  • Over 87% are eligible for free or reduced cost lunch
  • Garinger lacks substantial support from families, parent teacher associations or community groups

What can I do to help?

You can contribute to the foundation to help fund programs and initiatives such as:

  • Scholarships for Garinger students
  • Teacher assistance and recognition
  • Other initiatives as they are identified

What else can I do to help?

The foundation is seeking volunteers, both alumni and friends, to:

  • Serve on the foundation board
  • Mentor students
  • Assist teachers

Other Memorial Scholarships

The foundation will also accept funding from donors interested in establishing scholarships for other individuals.  Contact the foundation for more information

How do I contribute?

You can make a one time tax deductible contribution, or we encourage making a five year pledge to help ensure the continued success of the foundation
